Supermarket chain Morrisons has been crowned Retailer of the Year for the second year running by judges at the Oracle Retail Week Awards 2009.
The top prize was presented to the retailer at the annual awards ceremony held last week at London’s Grosvenor House hotel.
Other awards went to Sainsburys for Best Store Design of The Year, while its chief executive Justin King was named Retail Leader of the Year.
There was also recognition for Britain’s top two supermarkets, with Tesco scooping an award for Consumers’ Favourite Retailer of the Year and Asda receiving an accolade for Innovative Employer of the Year.
Meanwhile, Morrisons has announced it is to relaunch 500 of its home and leisure lines in an effort to boost sales of its non-food range.
The company said the lines will predominantly consist of products complementary to its food offer, including cookware and dinner party goods.
Chief executive Marc Bolland commented: “We’re not aiming to be the biggest in non-food but what we do, we want to do better.”
