Tesco is preparing for the launch of its first multi-storey high street supermarket in the UK.
Set to open for business in Liverpool on Monday, the £10m, 29,000-sq-ft Tesco Superstore will become the retailer’s first large store format in a high street location.
Tesco has reportedly received more than 1,000 job applications for the 200 positions at the revolutionary new-look store, which is part of the second phase of the £1bn Liverpool One development.
Food and drink is located on the ground floor, including a deli counter, an in-store bakery and a hot chicken counter.
Non-food ranges such as clothing, DVDs and CDs, cookware, mobile phones, MP3 players and health and beauty products are situated on the first floor, while a car park has been built above and alongside the supermarket .
Tesco said that the high street store has been built purely because of the development that is housing and is not part of a plan to take its Superstore format into high streets and city centres.
Meanwhile, Tesco is set to become the largest retailer of Easter eggs in the UK this year after buying more than one million chocolate eggs ordered by the now-collapsed Woolworths chain.
