More than a quarter of a million Asda customers have received a share of a £1 million bonus to help them make the most of this Christmas .
The supermarket’s Christmas Savings Card holders who saved at least £144 by using their card by November 16th qualified for a 4.2 per cent tax-free bonus on the amount they saved, giving a better return than many UK banks and building societies .
The extra cash was added to each customer’s card value on the following day, leading to a total nationwide payout of £1 million.
Asda said its Christmas Savings Card helps cash-strapped shoppers save for the Christmas period bit by bit over a long period.
Research carried out by the retailer suggests that Brits will reign in their Christmas spending to the tune of £300 million this year, as the nation continues to struggle through the economic downturn .
Amanda Farrell, head of Asda Christmas Savings Scheme, explained: “The Asda Christmas Savings Card beats banks and building societies hands down and makes pounds go further.”
“We encourage customers to save throughout the year, and offer an extra incentive near Christmas to help them get the best out of their festive shopping .”
