Supermarket chain Asda yesterday launched Britain’s lowest priced suit for just £19.
The two-piece suit normally sells at £25, £19 for the jacket and £6 for the trousers, but the bosses at Asda have decided to throw the trousers in free.
The deal is expected to last for a week while Asda marks the start of a new range of ‘Smartprice’ clothing under their George label.
The suit is recognised as the UK’s first throwaway suit as it is cheaper to replace with a brand new one rather than getting it dry-cleaned.
All 30,000 cut- price suits are expected to be sold out by Sunday, when the offer ends and the two-piece returns to it original price of £25.
Customers might say it isn’t ‘designer’ but it is machine washable and Asda says the cut and stitching have been overseen by George’s master tailor, who used to prepare suits for peers at the Houses of Parliament .
In all the outfit is less expensive than a bottle of Moet et Chandon champagne at £23.24 or a meal out. Asda also sells a shirt and tie combo from £6, which now gives men the chance buy the whole package at just £25.
“It’s not a stitch-up I assure you. We buy in bulk so you really can be a cut above the rest with change from £20, ” said George’s Global Managing Director, Angela Spindler
