Supermarket chain Waitrose has announced it is recalling some its own-brand meat products due to a possible risk of microbiological contamination.
The retailer’s Pulled Ham Hocks and Corned Beef meat products, sold under its ‘Cooks Ingredients’ and ‘Essential’ ranges respectively, are being pulled from stockists and consumers after routine testing detected the presence of listeria – a common bacterial contaminant that causes a type of food poisoning known as Listeriosis.
However not all of the of the meat products are affected by the recall, only those with the following date codes; Waitrose Cook’s Ingredients Pulled Ham Hock (180g) with use by dates of 27, 29 and 31 August 2011 and Waitrose Essential Corned Beef (140g) with a use by date of September 2, 2011.
Consumers who have bought the affected foods have been advised not to eat them and instead contact the retail store where they were purchased.
For more information on the recall, customers can contact Waitrose on 0800 188884.
