Sainsbury's is trailing hi-tech shopping trolleys which have as inbuilt iPad dock, allowing shoppers to browse the internet, play games or watch their favourite shows as they shop for groceries .
The trolleys, which are being tested at the Sainsburys supermarket in Cromwell Road in Kensington, West London, come complete with a tilting iPad holder, speakers and front bumper warning sensors which are designed to alert engrossed customers to other shoppers.
They also feature an onboard battery with a self-charging solar panel to ensure the docked iPads have constant power supply.
Brett Hart, Sainsburys trolley buyer, said: "We strive to make our customers lives simpler, which is why were looking at these new trolleys."
Developed in conjunction with Sky to promote its Sky Go service, the iPad trolleys could be rolled out across Sainsbury's stores nationwide if the Kensington branch trial proves successful.
Trolley designer Ian Burgess of Setwo Designs, said: "Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley weve cracked it."
