Supermarket giant Asda has delivered more good news for motorists with further cuts to the price of its fuel .
The Wal Mart-owned retailer has brought the price of petrol down from 92.9p to 90.9p per litre – the lowest level in the UK since April 2007 – while the price of diesel has been reduced to 105.9p per litre at all of the supermarket's 172 forecourts.
Asda unveiled its 10th consecutive price drop since July this year after the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced that falling petrol and food prices helped lower inflation to 4.5 per cent in October.
Britain’s leading supermarket groups sparked a fuel price war in September as the price of crude oil began to fall.
Darren Blackhurst, trading director at Asda, commented: "With oil prices still falling, there is no need for petrol prices to be so high - it is simply ripping off motorists."
According to the AA, the average price of petrol in the UK has fallen by record amounts over the past month.
Average prices dipped from 106.4p a litre in mid-October to 94.86p a litre in mid-November, while diesel prices fell 8.86p a litre in the last month to an average of 108.82p a litre in mid-November.
The AA said the big reduction in the price of petrol had slashed the cost of refilling a 50-litre tank by £5.77 and reduced the monthly petrol cost of a family with two cars by £24.73.
