Morrisons To Increase Age Limit Checks On Alcohol Sales

Morrisons has announced plans to increase the age at which it asks shoppers to produce identification to buy alcohol .

The supermarket chain said shoppers who look under the age of 25 will be asked to provide evidence of their age if purchasing wines, beers or spirits .

The grocer’s Task 25 scheme is to be introduced as part of new measures to crackdown on the levels of binge drinking amongst Britain’s young.

Commenting on the move, Morrisons licensed trades director Grant Eastwood said: "We take our responsibilities seriously and aim to do all we can to help prevent underage sales of alcohol ."

"No-one wants to see under-18s buying alcohol and, although no policy is absolutely guaranteed, we are confident that Task 25 will act as an even greater deterrent."

Eastwood added that the scheme will also cover people who try to purchase cigarettes and knives.
