Insects Discovered Inside Asda Own Brand Cereal Packs

Asda has been forced to pull some of its own-brand cereal after insects were discovered in some packs .
The supermarket chain said the weevils were found in a “small number” of Asda variety cereal packs and is now urging customers who may have bought the cereal to return it back to Asda stores for a full refund .
The products believed to be affected are the Asda variety cereal packs, which contain six mini-packs, with best before dates of February, March and April 2008.
Although the small beetle-like insects are not harmful to customers, they are “still unpleasant all the same”, an Asda spokesman said.
Meanwhile rival supermarket group Sainsbury’s also pulled its own-brand breakfast cereal selection packs from its shelves last Friday, after “small insects” were found rummaging inside the Honey Nut Cornflakes packs .
The affected Sainsbury’s product was produced by the same manufacturer responsible for the affected Asda cereal, according to a spokeswoman for the Food Standards Agency .
