Tesco store opens alongside new leisure hub

A brand new Tesco Extra store has opened in south London as part of a wider development known as the Streatham Hub.
The site became open for business on Monday (November 18th), after the leader of Lambeth council Lib Peck and Streatham MP Chuka Umunna cut the ribbon at a special welcome ceremony.
As well as the Tesco store, the hub also includes an ice rink, swimming pool and 250 new homes.
Around 1,000 jobs were created during the construction phase of the development, while the opening of the supermarket means that a further permanent 300 roles have been created – with 71 of them going to long-term unemployed people in the area.
Store manager John Williams said: “We have an exceptional team that has been working hard to get our new store ready for customers. We are thrilled to finally open our doors and be a part of the Streatham community.”
A gala event is set to take place on December 10th, which will see Olympic medallist Beth Tweddle officially open the adjoining leisure centre and ice rink.
