Sainsbury’s has launched a scheme to help local communities by encouraging customers to nominate a charity to receive support.
Shoppers have until May 15th to recommend an organisation, which they can do by visiting the supermarket’s website and clicking on the Local Charity Page.
A shortlist will be created by local stores based on how each body fits with Sainsburys corporate values – food, health, families, local communities and children – and the top three will be presented to the food and drink giant’s colleague councils, which make the final choice about which charity will receive assistance.
Then, at the beginning of June, the supermarket will announce 1,000 successful Local Charity Partners.
More than £5 million has been raised for the initiative over the last four years, thanks to the support of Sainsbury’s staff and customers for thousands of local charities.
The announcement comes after the supermarket chain was confirmed as the official title sponsor of British Athletics’ series of three events that are taking place this summer, kicking off with the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix in Birmingham at the end of June.
