ASDA supermarket has announced it will cut the price of its unleaded petrol by as much as 2p per litre in the coming days.
From today (June 25th) the chain says no customers will pay more than 130.7p per litre for unleaded or 134.7p for diesel at any of the 218 forecourts it owns across the entirety of the UK.
Wholesale market prices have recently dropped and mean that fuel providers are now able to pass on savings to consumers.
ASDA claims to be the only supermarket in the UK to have a cap on prices no matter where in the country – which has become popular among some rural motorists who previously had to pay a premium for their petrol because of poor supply chain links.
A report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research recently found filling up at the chain could save around £50 per year compared to using some other rivals’ services.
Petrol trading director at ASDA Andy Peake said: “We’re giving our customers the opportunity to fill up their cars with lower-priced fuel, putting much-needed cash back in their pockets … no-one filling up at Asda will be forced to pay a premium for their fuel.”
