Tesco has expanded its digital services with the creation of a new dotcom store at Crawley, West Sussex and has generated around 700 jobs in the process.
The supermarket is looking to employ local people to the roles, which will include positions for personal shoppers, drivers, support personnel and team managers.
It has been able to create the jobs due to a significant sales boost of 15 per cent in its online division during the most recent full quarter.
Barney Burgess, chief operating officer for grocery home shopping for Tesco, said dotcom services are becoming increasingly important to the chain’s customer service, as more individuals shop via their laptops and smartphones.
He added: “This state-of-the-art facility will increase our capacity in the area, enabling us to offer an excellent and convenient service to our customers.”
It will also feature in Tesco’s first television advertising campaign for 2013, which is set to go live today (January 23rd).
This comes after a high-tech facility was launched by the supermarket in Middlesex, which was also set up to support Tesco’s grocery delivery arm.
