Supermarket shoppers enjoyed Nectar points savings before Christmas

Sainsbury’s shoppers made significant savings in the run-up to Christmas and New Year by making use of their Nectar points.
This is according to new figures from the supermarket, which showed customers redeemed 22 billion Nectar points between September 30th 2012 and the end of the year.
Worth a record £110 million, this figure represented a ten per cent increase on the £100 million of points redeemed over the same period in 2011.
It was calculated that Nectar points saved during the year were used by around four million consumers as a means of funding their Christmas expenditure, while the busiest day for these shoppers was found to be December 22nd.
On this day, which was a Saturday, customers spent a record figure of almost £11 million of points on Sainsbury’s goods.
Sarah Warby, marketing director at Sainsbury’s, said the retailer is delighted to see so many of its shoppers making use of a scheme designed to help individuals live well for less.
Ms Warby stated: “Customers are increasingly savvy and many tell us that they save their points, using them at the end of the year to have a great Christmas.”
