Sainsbury’s has announced its commitment to offering an improved recycling experience for customers.
The supermarket revealed it will invest more in modern facilities in a bid to make it easier for shoppers to recycle their household materials.
In a partnership with Palm Recycling, Oxfam and Valpak, the retailer hopes to provide a one-stop shop for people looking to get rid of their waste in an environmentally-friendly fashion, while also complementing existing kerbside collections.
It is hoped the initiative will result in recycling rates being improved, local authority costs being reduced and the establishment of a recycling facility that is more customer-friendly than existing options.
Paul Crewe, head of engineering, sustainability, energy and environment at the supermarket, noted: “At Sainsburys we are committed to reducing the impact of our operations on the environment as well as helping our customers to reduce their household waste and recycle more often.”
Mr Crewe explained that although the UK is getting better at recycling on the whole, there is still a lot more to be done to reduce the impact on landfill.
