A supermarket has enjoyed a triumphant night at the 2012 Retail Industry Awards.
Sainsbury’s collected five accolades at the ceremony and was recognised for its achievements in helping customers through its Live Well for Less scheme.
The chain picked up gongs for Supermarket of the Year, Convenience Store of the Year, Most Sustainable Retailer of the Year, Drinks Retailer of the Year and Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year.
It means Sainsbury’s has now been named as the best supermarket for the fifth time in seven years, while also being praised as the top convenience store for the third year running.
Justin King, chief executive of Sainsburys, said the company is delighted to have won the prizes, especially given the high calibre of competition.
Mr King stated: “It’s particularly rewarding to be recognised as both Supermarket and Convenience Store of the Year – a great accolade to all our 150,000 colleagues.”
Andy Phelps, beers, wines and spirits category manager at the group, explained the drinks retailer award is testament to the quality of beverages on offer at the supermarket, adding this is delivered at every price point.
