Morrisons has added a further two former Netto stores to its portfolio after securing a deal with Asda .
The Manchester and Dunstable-based supermarkets are in addition to the 16 former Netto stores purchased from Asda in January, and are expected to begin trading under the Morrisons brand by September.
Commenting on the latest acquisition, Morrisons retail director Mark Harrison said: “These additional stores are an important next step in Morrisons’ growth.”
“We are building on our strategy to bring Morrisons’ unique offer of freshly prepared, affordable food to more people in Britain.”
The 18 Netto stores acquired by the retailer represent some of the 47 grocery outlets that Asda was required to sell as part of its £778m takeover deal of Netto’s UK operations.
The first of Asda’s converted Netto supermarkets opened in Wakefield, Worksop and Stainforth in Yorkshire earlier this month.
