Morrisons Scoops Prestigious Retail Award

Morrisons, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain, has been named the country’s number one retail employer.
The Bradford-based company received the prestigious accolade at the Oracle Retail Week Awards ceremony which was held last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London .
The award was in recognition of Morrisons’ commitment to training, with the supermarket offering every retail employee the opportunity to achieve a nationally-recognised qualification .
Morrisons aims to train all 40,000 of its 16 to 24-year-old employees to achieve a QCF Level 2 retail skills qualification .
Tim Danaher, editor of Retail Week magazine, said: “Morrisons’ commitment to the training and development of its people is a great example of the important contribution that retailers make to the wider UK skills agenda.”
“But, more than that, it demonstrates good commercial sense, ensuring Morrisons staff have the knowledge and expertise to meet the needs of today’s increasingly sophisticated and demanding shopper.”
Morriosns currently employs some 135,000 staff in 430 stores across the UK, and plans to add a further 5,700 employees to its workforce over through new store openings over the coming year.
