Tesco to reward staff with pay rise and bonus

Tesco has announced that its entire UK workforce is to receive an above-average pay rise and a bonus.
The UK’s largest retailer and supermarket chain said each of its 233,000 UK employees will see their annual salary increase by a minimum 2.5 per cent from July, which is higher than the 2 per cent rise in UK average earnings seen in the year to April.
Staff will also share a record £110m bonus pot following the supermarket’s annual profits haul of £3.8 billion.
Customer assistants, who account for around 65 per cent of Tesco’s store staff, will receive a further 0.2 per cent increase to their annual pay packets, taking their hourly rate past the £7 per hour mark for the first time.
“We continue to invest in our people because they are our most valuable asset,” said Tesco’s UK chief executive, Richard Brasher.
“This pay deal recognises the hard work of all of our store staff, rewarding their continued commitment to customers and the huge contribution they make to our continuing success.”
