Beer pricing hiccup causes mayhem at Tesco stores

Shoppers across Scotland flocked to Tesco stores yesterday to take advantage of price error which saw boxes of booze being sold at half price.
A computer glitch at the tills meant that customers at a number of Tesco supermarkets were able to buy three boxes of various alcoholic drinks for £11, instead of the normal £20 sale price.
The error caused mayhem in the aisles as word quickly spread about the cut-price alcohol deal, with many people posting messages on social networking sites.
At the Tesco store in Greenock, police were even called in to help deal with heavy congestion in the car park, as customers raced to make the most of the till glitch.
A spokesman for Tesco explained that the offer was supposed to be “buy three boxes of beer and save £11”. Instead, shoppers were able to pick up packs of popular beers and ciders for just over a tenner.
However, he stressed that the pricing error only affected a handful of lines on promotion for a short period, as the problem was quickly spotted and resolved by early evening.
