Sainsburys college courses accredited by City and Guilds

Sainsbury’s food and bakery colleges have received formal accreditation, highlighting the high standard of the supermarket’s courses.
Vocational education provider City and Guilds has formally accredited the retailer’s six Food Colleges and Bakery College, which are expected to be attended by more than 20,000 Sainsburys staff this year.
The customer service and practical skills gained by employees will now be nationally recognised.
“Sainsbury’s is absolutely committed to giving all of our colleagues the opportunity to develop and learn new skills, despite the challenging climate,” said Gwyn Burr, Sainsbury’s customer service and colleague director.
“This accreditation from City and Guilds is in recognition of the high standards we have set at the colleges and we can already see how our customers are benefiting from the improved service and quality from our newly trained counter colleagues.”
Sainsbury’s six Food Colleges offer in-depth training on a wide range of subjects to employees working on the meat, fish, deli, hot food and bakery counters, and café staff.
They opened following the successful launch of Sainsbury’s Bakery College in Whitworths Mill near Northampton in May 2010, which was the first training facility of its kind in the UK.
