Asda has launched a Christmas toys price-cutting drive in a bid to ease the strain on consumer’s wallets.
The UK’s second largest supermarket chain has slashed prices on hundreds of must-have toys by up to 60 per cent in a move which it claims will save hard-pressed customers some £15 million.
The price reductions come in response to research carried out earlier this year by leading economists Cebr, which suggested that levels of disposable income among British families could be at their lowest for more than two years in the fourth quarter of 2010.
According to the research, the average UK household will have a disposable income of £172 in December – £5 less than last year and the same amount as December 2008.
“These are increasingly uncertain times for millions of families across the UK, and it’s clear that customers will need us more than ever,” said Asda toy buyer Mark Spowart.
“Nearly three quarters of our shoppers told us that despite times being tough, the last thing they want to do is compromise on their kids.”
“The extensive price cuts we’re offering on hundreds of popular toys should provide a helping hand to ensuring the kids are more than satisfied on Christmas morning.”
