Supermarket chain Asda has announced it will launch a video games trade-in service at most of its stores next week.
The retailer said customers at 234 of its supermarkets will be able to trade-in their console games for new titles under its ‘Buy Play Trade’ service, which will cover games for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS consoles.
Asda’s plans to enter the pre-owned games market was first revealed last week when the company announced it was offering the much-anticipated FIFA 11 for just 97p in exchange for either Halo Reach, Dead Rising 2 or F1 2010.
According to research carried out by MCV, the second-hand games market is expanding rapidly.
The number of retail outlets offering pre owned games and trade-in services has grown by 1,000 stores over the past twelve months, from 2,000 to 3,000 UK shops.
Tesco recently rolled-out its second-hand games scheme, but it remains to be seen whether rivals Sainsbury and Morrisons will follow suit.
