Asda To Create Over 7,500 Jobs In 2011

Asda, the UK’s second biggest supermarket group, has announced it will create more than 7,500 jobs across Britain next year.
The Walmart-owned retailer said the positions will be made available through the opening of new stores, the expansion of its home shopping service and the conversion of newly acquired Netto stores.
Around 3,500 people will be hired at new Asda stores, 2,400 staff will be added to its home shopping workforce and 1,500 people will be taken on at Netto supermarkets – doubling the number of employees at the Danish discount retailer. One hundred staff will also be recruited at new in-store pharmacies .
“I’m proud to say next year we will once again create thousands of new jobs at every level of our growing business,” commented Asda chief executive Andy Clarke.
“At Asda we always recruit for attitude and train for skill, so you needn’t have previous retail experience to apply. We’re simply looking for people who share our passion for customer service .”
Asda agreed a £778m deal for the acquisition of Netto’s UK food stores in May. It plans to start converting the outlets to the Asda brand in the first quarter of 2011.
