Supermarket giant Tesco has become the first UK retailer to offer a high definition (HD) Freeview box with recording capabilities.
The 320 GB Technika SmartBox is the UK’s first HD Freeview+ hybrid set, meaning users can now watch and record Freeview content in high definition, which gives up to five times more detail than ordinary standard definition TV .
Users can also connect the device to the internet and access over 2000 hours of on-demand programmes via IP Vision’s FetchTV platform. Services include BBC’s iPlayer and the ITV Player.
A wide range of content from Sky TV can also be accessed for free by subscribing to Sky Player.
Commenting on the launch of the SmartBox, Tesco senior commercial manager Matt Finch said: “We are offering customers a fantastic range of deals on entertainment systems ahead of the World Cup and this is the ultimate in superb match viewing.”
