Tesco Launches BBQ Halal Range

Tesco has expanded its range of ethnic foods with the launch of a new halal barbeque range.
The UK’s largest retailer, which already offers Muslim shoppers the choice of more than 100 fresh halal products, has now become the first supermarket to sell barbeque meat products that have been prepared in accordance with Islamic law.
The new range consists of seven frozen chicken and lamb barbeque dishes, with more products set to be added to the BBQ line next year.
Steve Ewels, Tesco’s ethnic food buying manager, said: “It’s estimated there are two million Muslims living in the UK but until now there’s never been a dedicated halal barbeque range. Now we’ve put that right.”
“We know there is a growing demand for halal food so for us it is a natural move to offer a barbeque range.”
The launch follows recent moves by fast food chains McDonald’s, KFC and Subway, as well as restaurant chain Nandos, to offer halal food at more UK outlets.
Britain’s halal food market is said to be worth an estimated £2.8 billion a year.
