New Morrisons Supermarkets Create 800 Jobs

Hundreds of new supermarket jobs have been created by the opening of three new Morrisons stores .
The UK’s fourth biggest grocery retailer said around 800 new staff are being brought on board to fill positions at new supermarket outlets in Streatham, south London, Dover and Willenhall in the West Midlands.
It revealed that 350 of the new positions, which include checkout operators, fishmongers, bakery staff and managers, have been filled by people who were previously unemployed and added that all new staff members are being trained for a nationally recognised qualification in retail .
Norman Pickavance, Morrisons HR director, said: “Every Morrisons employee is given the opportunity of developing their career so they can go from the shop floor to the top floor.”
“Of the top executives in the company 30 per cent of them started their career on the shop floor.”
“A critical element of the quality of service we offer to our customers is the investment we make in the training development of our people.”
The new Morrisons stores are part of the company’s plan to increase retail floor space by one million square feet over the next three years.
Last week the company announced strong trading figures for the Christmas period, with total sales growing by 11.2 per cent in the six weeks to 3 January.
