Tesco Goes Mobile With Launch Of First Grocery Shopping App

Tesco has joined forces with mobile phone giant Nokia to launch its first mobile shopping application.
The new service from the UK’s biggest supermarket chain gives customers access to all the functions of Tesco’s online shopping service.
Shoppers can search for products, order goods and schedule deliveries via their Nokia handsets .
The free application also syncs with the customer’s existing online account so that they can continue with their orders on a laptop or desktop PC, and vice versa.
Tesco is targeting the grocery app at busy mums, who according to the retailer are more likely to have one of the mainstream Nokia phones than an iPhone .
Nick Lansley, head of R&D at Tesco.com, said: “Our core customers are busy mums who don’t have iPhones and we want to focus on them first.”
However, the company did state they have plans to roll out similar applications on other devices in the future.
The free Tesco Grocery app is available to download exclusively on Nokia’s Ovi Store, where users can also find the Tesco Clubcard app.
