Supermarket giant Tesco has launched a new mobile phone application that allows customers to quickly locate the products on their shopping list in its stores.
The retailer’s Tesco Branch and Product Finder application has been developed solely for the Apple iPhone and acts as an in-store Sat Nav, using the same technology that Tesco.com staff use to pick out orders for online shoppers.
As well as accurately guiding shoppers to the exact aisle and shelf housing their desired product, the free app also uses the iPhone’s GPS technology to locate nearby Tesco stores .
Nick Lansley, head of research and development at Tesco, said: “The application is genuinely unique and useful. I’ve road-tested it myself in stores from Hendon to Holyhead and I’m delighted with how easy it is to use. I found everything from a brand of premium cider to Basmati rice immediately.”
“Apps are great fun and this one is just the start of how we can use technology to make the shopping experience easier and easier.”
Lansley added that a ” Grocery Home Shopping ” iPhone application for Tesco customers was in the pipeline.
The Tesco Branch and Product Finder application is available to download at the online Apple App Store (apple.com/iphone/apps-for-iphone).
