Sainsburys To Introduce Homeware Brand

Supermarket giant Sainsburys is set to significantly increase its range of non-food products with the launch of a budget homeware brand this weekend.
The 1,700-item ‘Tu Home’ range will initially be trialled in two Sainsbury stores – Sydenham, in London, and Oldbury, in the West Midlands – before being extended to four more stores in June and 11 stores by September.
The new low-cost brand will include products ranging from kitchen implements to lighting and bathroom fittings – 70 per cent of which will be sold for less than £10, according to reports.
The launch of the Tu Home range has been labelled by industry experts as “essential” to Sainsbury’s plan to increase its non-food sales by more than £1 billion by March 2010.
Richard Jones, Sainsbury’s head of general merchandise, called the move an “important milestone” in the supermarket’s non-food operations, which currently includes two non-food lines – Different and Basics.
