A Sainsburys store in Scarborough is looking to extend its licence to sell alcohol .
Scarborough Borough Council’s licensing authority has received an application from the supermarket chain seeking permission to extend the number of hours they can sell alcohol at their store in Gallows Yard, Falsgrave.
A successful appeal will allow the store to sell alcohol seven days a week between 6am and 12am, subject to the supermarket being open for trading.
Store Manager Robert Brookes commented: “We are extending the hours so we can give our customers a full range of products whenever they call into the store .”
“Currently we open at 7am, however our licence only covers us to sell alcohol from 8am. We are not allowed to sell alcohol after 11pm and as we close at that time it is not usually a problem,” he added.
“However in the run up to Christmas we open the store for an extra hour at night, and we would like to be able to offer customers alcohol at that time.”
The licensing authority is expected to make a decision next week.
