Tesco is set to expand its international operations in both China and Turkey as part of plans to offset a slowdown in its UK food business .
The supermarket giant is planning to open its Tesco Express convenience store in China, starting in Shanghai next month.
Tesco, which operates in 13 countries, has targeted nations such as China, the United States and Turkey to lead its international expansion.
Tesco, through its joint venture with Chinese chain Ting Hsin, already operates 50 hypermarkets in China under the Hymall fascia and has its own branded store situated in Beijing .
Britain’s largest retailer is also planning on expanding its presence in Turkey with £380m investment expected over the next five years to triple its business to more than 150 stores .
Tesco currently operates 46 outlets in the fast-growing economy, including 12 hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores .
