Employees at supermarket giant Asda are set to share a record £21 million payout later this month.
The UK’s second largest supermarket group has now paid-out over £100 million in bonuses to its 127,000 members of staff since introducing its annual performance-related bonus scheme in 2000, after the grocer was acquired by US retailing giant Wal-Mart .
This year’s bonus, which amounts to an average of £245 for a full-time employee, will be distributed among staff with more than six months’ service working in Asda’s 352 stores and 24 depots across the UK .
Over 45,000 UK employees from 118 stores and 21 depots will receive the full bonus entitlement for beating their performance targets for the year, while full-time workers in stores that hit the “super bonus” threshold will collect a payout of up to £420 each.
Asda chief executive Andy Bond said: “Once again, it’s the hard work and enthusiasm of our colleagues that has made the business such a success this year.”
“It is only fair that we share the rewards with all the colleagues who helped make it happen.”
