Tesco Launches Half-Price Christmas Sale

Tesco has launched a massive half-price sale today in an effort to attract more shoppers in the run-up to Christmas .
The supermarket giant has slashed prices by 50 per cent on around 1,000 items, with a focus on Christmas essentials and gifts, in response to research which suggested that customers were reluctant to spend on goods which would later be discounted.
Commercial director Richard Brasher said: “Customers are telling us that they are delaying their main Christmas purchases as they wait for bargains. Our half-price sale reassures customers that we are not making them wait.”
“They’ve told us they still want to enjoy a special Christmas – with big presents for their children and a proper Christmas meal – but they want us to help make their money go further,” he added.
Items that have been significantly reduced in price include a quad bike, down from £80 to £32 and champagne flutes, reduced from £12 to £6, as well as seasonal foods such as Christmas pudding .
Its promotion comes after the retailer revealed sales growth dropped to 2 per cent in the last quarter, representing its weakest UK sales performance since the last recession .
Tesco said the sales growth decline came as it cut prices to lure in cash-strapped shoppers affected by the economic turmoil, resulting in higher sales volumes and customer numbers.
