A new Sainsburys promotion, fronted by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, has sparked a supermarket price war.
The grocer’s ‘Feed Your Family for a Fiver’ campaign involves Oliver showing mums how to prepare and cook a healthy family meal for less than £5.
But rival retailers Asda and Morrisons have both responded by saying they can provide spaghetti and meatballs to shoppers for less than the £4.28 stated in the Sainsbury’s commercial.
Using six like-for-like items including 500g of mince, an onion and tinned tomatoes, Asda said its bill comes to £3.63 while Morrisons is £4.13.
An Asda spokesperson commented: “Thanks to Jamie, our customers are getting ideas from Sainsbury’s but their ingredients from us because they get a lot more change from £5.”
