Sainsbury’s has announced it will continue to scale up its web operations after posting a 40 per cent increase in internet sales during the six months to October.
The supermarket chain’s interim figures released today show the around 80,000 online orders being taken by customer each week, compared to 60,000 for the same period last year, and is available to 83 per cent of UK households .
However, the figures are still far less than rival retailer Tesco, which was reportedly processing around 250,000 online orders at the last count.

The firm said it would be increasing the number of Christmas delivery slots by 40 per cent in response to customer demand.
