Tesco To Introduce Health Checks For Grocery Shoppers

Tesco shoppers in Teeside will soon be able to buy a ‘health MOT’ while doing their weekly grocery shopping .
Tesco stores in Hartlepool, Stockton and Newton Aycliffe are set to offer customers a 30-minute health assessment which includes a blood pressure and cholesterol check, diabetes screening and weight management .
The new Tesco Pharmacy Health Check will be available from January 2 and has been launched to tackle obesity problems in the UK .
Recent statistics shockingly revealed that half of British adults are overweight, while one in three are affected by high blood pressure and two thirds suffer from high cholesterol . It is also estimated that 750,000 Brits suffer from diabetes but remain totally unaware of it.
Philip Banks, Tesco Pharmacy’s services manager, said the new checks would help people switch to a healthier lifestyle .
“Understanding more about your health is vital to staying fit and well. The four checks that make up the service are key to identifying whether you may be at risk of developing health complications or conditions such as diabetes and heart disease in the future.”
“With the new Tesco Pharmacy Health Check service, it will be convenient to check out your health at the same time as you do your weekly shopping .”
Appointments can be made at the pharmacy counter and during January the health checks will be available for a special offer price of £10.
The total cholesterol check and diabetes screening is done with a simple pin-prick test that takes less than a second.
Test results will be available immediately and will be explained by the pharmacist, who will also provide appropriate lifestyle advice and guidance on any action the customer might need to take.
