Waitrose has announced it is to offer fashion lines for the first time this autumn following the transformation of its flagship store in London’s Canary Wharf.
The three-floor branch is currently being revamped and is scheduled to re-open in September as a new format store that combines food, homeware and fashion .
The move will mark the first time the supermarket chain has launched a fashion range, and will enable the retailer to compete with rivals Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys, which all currently offer a wide selection of clothing lines.
Although details of the new fashion offer are unclear it is expected that it will consist of various fashion brands, instead of being Waitrose branded.
A spokesperson for Waitrose said: “Canary Wharf is our flagship branch which opened 10 years ago.”
“The shop is currently undergoing a major transformation that will be completed and unveiled in September. Our offer will feature exciting new ranges across food, hospitality, fashion and home.”
“We’ll reveal more over the coming weeks, but we’re certain it’ll be worth the wait.”
