Sainsburys introduces authentic Mexican food range

Sainsbury's has today launched a complete chilled Mexican food range in 545 of its supermarket stores.

The range, which Sainsbury’s claims is the first to be offered by a major UK retailer, includes 20 products priced from £1.50 to £6.00.

Shoppers can pick up complete meal kits including Chicken Fajita and Jalapeno Roasted Mushroom Fajita kits, or opt for vibrant individual dishes such as Mojito Chicken, Butternut Squash Garbanzos, Chicken Tinga Quesadillas and Prawn Veracruz.

Other products include Chicken and Chorizo Mexican Rice, Vegetable Naked Burrito Bowl, Chilli Con Carne, Mexican Meatballs and Corn Bread .

Romilly Edelmann, Sainsburys product developer, said: "As the trend for Mexican restaurants and food trucks is on the rise, we're proud to have developed a range of dishes that capture the flavours and vibrancy that are proving so popular."

"Our starting point was to sit down with a true Mexican chef to learn what makes great Mexican food . From this we'll be launching everything from Chicken Tinga Quesadillas to Potatoes and Chorizo. With such a broad range, it makes a mid-week meal or even a family meal a fiesta!"
