Asda has sought to take advantage of the tightening of returns policies by companies such as Marks and Spencer by unveiling an extremely generous returns policy of their own. The supermarket is one of Britain’s largest clothing retailers, and will tomorrow unveil a permanent 100 day no questions asked quality guarantee on all of its clothing products.
The returns policy, which seeks to hit back at the rise of throwaway fashion, entitles customers to a full refund irrespective of how many times it has been worn or washed. Brand director at George, Fiona Lambert, said the new policy was not only designed to advertise the supermarkets quality of product, but aimed to get more shoppers in Asda stores across the UK.
The policy was trialled on school uniforms last July, and Asda claim that out of a total of £9 million, only £900 worth of goods were returned. The policy hopes to win over those who hit out at Marks and Spencer for cutting back their returns policy twice in the past four years. M&S has cut the maximum time period for returns from 90 days to 35 days, though the retailer insists this won’t affect most customers, as it believes they return items fairly promptly anyway.
