Online grocery chain Ocado is to continue selling Waitrose goods for the foreseeable future after the two retailers signed a new exclusive 10-year deal.

Under the terms of the new supply agreement, Ocado will have the right to sell Waitrose products until September 2020 and can continue to use the Waitrose brand on its website and on its fleet of more than 700 delivery vans.

The new arrangement, which replaces a deal that was due to end in 2012, will also allow Waitrose to compete directly with Ocado in the London market from next summer.

Under the previous contract, Waitrose was unable to offer its own grocery delivery service (WaitroseDeliver.com) inside the M25 until mid-2012, with the exception of deliveries from five Waitrose supermarkets .

Commenting on the new deal, Ocado chief executive Tim Steiner said: "Waitrose is a fantastic brand and a great partner. This new agreement enables both sides to continue to grow and benefit from the relationship."

"In areas where Waitrose and Ocado trade together, we have both grown significantly ahead of our competition."

Mark Price, the managing director of Waitrose, added: "Waitrose and Ocado have worked well together for many years and are complementary businesses with a shared passion for high quality food, outstanding customer service and great value."
