Supermarkets provide a higher level of customer service than non-food retailers, according to new research.
Britains grocery retailers received an average score of 80 (out of 100) in the latest UK Customer Service Index, which polled some 26,000 consumers on their shopping service.
The number one supermarket chain for customer satisfaction was Waitrose with a score of 86 points, followed closely by rival Marks and Spencer Food on 85 points.
In third place was Asda with 81 points, just one ahead of both Sainsburys and Iceland. Tesco, the UKs largest retailer, scored 79 out of 100, along with Lidl, while Morrisons and Aldi both received 77 points.
Bottom of the supermarket customer service list was the Co-op with a score of 75.
Non-food retailers scored an average of 79 points in the Index, but had the best overall UK retailer for customer satisfaction in John Lewis .
The findings show that the retail sector as a whole has improved by four points over the last two years, and is now the top sector for customer satisfaction, ahead of tourism and consumer services.
