Supermarkets set to rival games shops

Specialist games shops are going to have their toes trodden on further by the likes of Asda and Tesco as both retailers start their own trade-in service for second hand video games .

Games news magazine, MCV suggest that Asda started a trade-in service in some of its stores in February. Tesco started trials in late 2009 and has extended the service to other stores.

The service usually only found in specialist games shops such as Game have been a good source of revenue during the recent economic downturn.

Asda announced that the second hand games market is one that they can’t ignore. Customers can trade in used games and buy second hand titles as well.

The decline of sales for specialist games shops has been blamed in part on supermarkets as well as online stores such as Amazon and Play.com, according to market analysts.
