Tesco has today launched Britains first supermarket shopping drive-thru service at one of its stores in Hertfordshire.
Under the new scheme, which has been introduced at the group's Tesco Extra store in Baldock, customers order and pay for their goods online, but unlike other internet shoppers they choose the Click and Collect option which allows them to book a two-hour collection slot.
They then pay £2 fee for a reserved area in the stores car park where they drive to, to have their pre-packed shopping loaded into their car by a member of staff.
If successful, the first of its kind service could be rolled out to other Tesco stores across the country.
Laura Wade-Gery, chief executive of Tesco Direct and Tesco.com, said: "This will be especially popular with busy mums who have the school run and children's activities to manage."
"It also offers a solution to parents who want to avoid the challenge of shopping in a busy store with children in tow but can't afford the time to stay in for the shop to arrive to their door."
"We also expect it to help young professionals who want the convenience of a pre-picked and packed shop but who cannot commit to waiting at home for delivery. They can collect their shop on their way home from work or at any other time that suits them during our extensive collection hours."
