Supermarket giant Tesco is to introduce an online schoolwear embroidery service this week following a successful trial earlier this year.

Under the service, customers can pick up a Tesco sweatshirt embroidered with a school emblem from £7 and a twin pack of polo shirts from £10, which according to the retailer is 40 per cent less than the current market rate.

Commenting on the service, Tesco director Lucy Neville-Rolfe said: "With household budgets remaining tight, we want to offer top quality school uniform for everyone. By providing embroidery for polo shirts and sweatshirts at an affordable price, we’re helping families sometimes caught in an expensive trap."

"With the success of the trial we are also hoping to extend this service into school sportswear in due course."

One thousand garments were embroidered for children at 70 schools in Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield and Hertfordshire during the trial.

As part of its nationwide rollout, Tesco is offering parents the chance to put their school forward for the embroidery service online at Tesco.com/clothing.
