Morrisons has temporarily frozen the price of its fuel in response to the news that UK motorists face a rise in fuel duty .
The supermarket chain said it would not be increasing the price of petrol and diesel at its store forecourts between September 1 and September 6, despite the Government hiking the cost of fuel by 2p-a-litre from today.
The increase will actually be 2.3p a litre with VAT included and takes the cost of an average litre to 107.3p.
Unleaded petrol at Morrisons is currently priced at 103.7p per litre, while diesel fuel is set at 103.9p per litre.
"Once again, Morrisons is taking the lead in giving fuel price savings," said chief executive Marc Bolland.
"By paying the duty increase we are demonstrating our commitment to delivering the strongest value for all our customers."
At the start of the year, petrol cost 85p a litre. However, it is feared that soaring oil prices could result in the cost of fuel reaching 110p a litre by the end of the week.
He difference is equal to an average £60 extra per year in drivers’ fuel costs.
