Supermarket giant Asda is to offer customers money back on grocery shopping for the first time through a new partnership with online cashback portal Quidco.com.
Under the new joint-initiative, Asda customers who shop online via the Quidco site will be rewarded with 1 per cent cashback on their groceries, including delivery charges.
This means that a typical family will now be able to save more than £100 each year on their food and drink purchases.
Commenting on the move, Asdas online marketing manager Chris Dalrymple, said: "Saving people money and keeping costs low is a fundamental part of our culture and through Quidco we can help our customers to really reap the benefits of shopping through the online channel."
"It provides a unique way to recruit those customers who, until recently, may not have had access to the home delivery service ."
Quidco CEO, Michael Murphy added: "This exciting agreement demonstrates a mutual commitment to saving Britain money. Never before has cashback been available to consumers on grocery purchases and we are delighted to be championing innovation."
According to official figures, the online grocery shopping market has grown by a massive 134 per cent since 2005 and is estimated to now be worth £4.4 billion, with Asda itself reporting a 60 per cent rise in web-based grocery deliveries over the last four years.
