Morrisons Staff To Receive GBP34m Bonus

Staff at supermarket chain Morrisons are set to share a £34 million bonus payout for their efforts in helping the company defy the economic downturn and deliver strong growth.
The payment – an increase of 13 per cent on last year – will be shared among the 124,000 workers who have been employed by Morrisons for at least a year.
Last week, Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket reported recession-defying figures for 2008, with sales rising almost 8 per cent in 2008 and profits up 7 per cent to £655m.
The Bradford-based grocer claimed its impressive performance was driven by an increase in the number of shoppers lured from its major rivals Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Waitrose, and sales of its Value food range.
Chief executive Marc Bolland said the average spend per visit increased by 85p to £23.92.
