Asda has been given the go-ahead to build its largest store in Northern Ireland, near the capital of Belfast .
The supermarket giant said the 54,000 sq ft development, situated at the Junction One retail development on the outskirts of Antrim, will create at least 400 retail jobs when it opens for business at the end of 2010.
The new flagship store will include a restaurant and parking for over 600 cars.
Giving the 'green light' for the new Asda project in Antrim, Environment Minister Sammy Wilson said: "The granting of this application will, I believe, benefit the economy, creating much needed work in the construction and retail sectors at a time of economic downturn ."
"I have given full consideration to all issues relating to this application and to all the representations my Department has received on this matter.
"Having weighed up all the arguments that have been made to the Planning Service, I believe the new store is unlikely to have adverse impact on the town centre's viability," he added.
However Glyn Roberts, chief executive of Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA), warned that the Asda superstore would be ‘the final nail in the coffin’ for Antrim town centre.
