Waitrose is set to continue with its convenience store plans with the opening of its first store in London .
The new outlet will open in the Crouch End area in the north of the capital in a refurbished former Woolworths department store - one of four Woolworths stores in London acquired by the upmarket grocery chain last year.
The new branch, which is set to create sixty new jobs for the local community, is scheduled to open in October, with refurbishment of the 6,230-square-foot outlet taking place in September.
"We have wanted to come to Crouch End for a long time and believe we have found a location that will allow us to attract shoppers to the high street and trade successfully," said Nigel Keen, director of development at Waitrose ."
"Through revitalizing a vacant building, we will not only create new jobs, but provide a wider choice of shopping services for the local community."
He added: "It is in our best interest to ensure Crouch End is an attractive place for visitors to come and we look forward to having the opportunity to work alongside our fellow traders."
The London shop is the third under the supermarkets convenience store format, following the launch of its first store in Nottingham last December and it’s second in Bristol in March.
Plans for a fourth convenience outlet are in the pipeline but a location and date are yet to be decided.
